As human beings, our everyday decision-making is unavoidably affected by implicit biases, stereotypes, and other types of cognitive biases. However, as attorneys, it is imperative that we understand these biases and take steps to ensure they do not have unfair or harmful consequences. In this program, viewers will learn about unconscious bias and the consequences they can have on us as professionals. The presenter will also help viewers recognize their own implicit biases and take steps to mitigate their influence over our professional lives.
Learning Objectives
* Explore our implicit and other cognitive biases
* Learn how biases affect the practice of law
* Get tools to confront our own biases and mitigate their influence over our professional lives
Does the race and/or gender of the LAWYER have any measurable outcome on the litigant's results?
- MeredithH
Answer
There are studies that show minority attorneys are evaluated more harshly than white attorneys but I am unaware of any data that would answer the question of outcomes.
