Illinois CLE Requirements

Illinois's Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Requirement:
The State Bar of Illinois requires attorneys to complete 30 Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credit hours every 2 years. The 30 IL MCLE hours must include 6 hours of Professional Responsibility courses comprised of the following practice areas:  4 hours of Ethics,  1 hour of Diversity and Inclusion, and 1 hour of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. 

Illinois MCLE Deadline:
The Illinois State Bar groups attorneys into 1 of 2 compliance groups depending on their last name. The MCLE deadlines for these groups are:

   Group 1 (Last Name A-M)
   Compliance Deadline: June 30th, Every Even Year

   Group 2 (Last Name N-Z)
   Compliance Deadline: June 30th, Every Odd Year

Illinois MCLE Reporting Deadline: 
Illinois attorneys have until July 31st to report the CLE hours earned by June 30th of their compliance period. Courses taken online with LexVid will be reported to the Illinois State Bar by LexVid on the attorneys behalf.

How do I report my Illinois MCLE compliance?
To report your Illinois credits, visit The Supreme Court of Illinois Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Board website at www.mcleboard.org:

  • Click on "Attorneys Enter Here."
  • Log in with your ARDC number and click on "My MCLE."
Note: Courses taken online with LexVid will be reported to the Illinois State Bar MCLE Board by LexVid on the attorneys behalf, however these courses may not appear on that transcript.

What if I'm a newly admitted attorney in Illinois?
Newly admitted attorneys must complete their requirements with in 1 year of being admitted to the Illinois State Bar.

Yes, you can! IL Attorneys can carry over up to 10 MCLE credits earned prior to the beginning of their reporting period, including professional responsibility credits.
