North Dakota's Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Requirement:
The State Bar of North Dakota requires attorneys complete 45 Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit hours every 3 years. The 45 ND CLE hours must include 3 hours of Ethics / Professional Responsibly courses. 15 self study credit hours can be earned online with on-demand courses.
North Dakota CLE Deadline:
The North Dakota State Bar groups attorneys into 1 of 3 compliance groups depending on when they were admitted to the state bar. The CLE deadlines for these groups are:
Group 1 Compliance Deadline: June 30, 2027
Group 2 Compliance Deadline: June 30, 2025
Group 3 Compliance Deadline: June 30, 2026

North Dakota CLE Reporting Deadline:
Continuing Legal Educiaton credit earned in a compliance period must be reported by July 31st following the compliance deadline.

How are my hours reported to the North Dakota State Bar?
Use the North Dakota State Bar Report of Compliance form to report your CLE compliance to the North Dakota State Bar. Each certificate contains the information needed to report your CLE hours. Certificates of completion are emailed to you immediately upon course completion.
